HP Discover 2011

LAS VEGAS--()--HP Discover 2011 – Avnet Technology Solutions, the global IT solutions distribution leader and operating group of Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT), today announced a new utility computing solution – CapacityNow. Blending together the benefits of cloud computing and traditional IT deployments, CapacityNow enables Avnet’s value-added reseller (VAR) partners to offer their customers dedicated, on-site storage and blade servers that they pay for through a service arrangement based solely on how much capacity they utilize. Partners can help their customers leverage technology with unparalleled agility to meet their business goals of minimizing IT expenses and maximizing the efficiency and velocity of their data centers. CapacityNow will initially be available to Avnet HP partners in the U.S. and Canada.

“To maximize efficiency and utilization, enterprises want to purchase only the computing capacity they initially need and be able to seamlessly scale their computing infrastructure as the business grows,” said Tony Vottima, senior vice president and general manager, Avnet Technology Solutions, Americas, HP Solutions Group. “With CapacityNow, Avnet’s HP partners can make this a reality for their customers. It gives our partners an innovative way to support the financial goals of their customers, while still improving the efficiency, scalability and flexibility of their customers’ IT infrastructures. We are confident that CapacityNow will provide our partners’ customers with exactly what they need and want, while creating incremental data center revenue opportunities for our partners.”

As a part of CapacityNow, Avnet will provide partners with assessment services to determine the storage and blade server capacity needed to meet their customers’ baseline and anticipated capacity growth requirements. The utility computing solution can also include buffer capacity, so customers can immediately scale up when demand increases. The customers’ infrastructure capacity will be metered daily. With detailed utilization data provided by the monitoring service, Avnet and the partner will be able to hold regular planning and review meetings to make certain the storage and blade server capacity provided is fulfilling the customer’s exact requirements and needs.

CapacityNow is designed to offer customers an affordable and secure way to realize many of the benefits of private cloud computing. Avnet’s partners will be able to help their customers lower the initial capital costs needed to buy storage and server technology with those technology resources delivered as on-site IT resources with a usage-based payment plan. It provides an alternative solution for customers looking to take advantage of the cost savings, expandability and flexibility of cloud computing and who also want to reduce security and reliability concerns by keeping key data and computing resources on their own premises.

“Our customers are looking for new, innovative ways to achieve the greatest agility possible in their data centers, while meeting their companies’ financial goals,” said Al Chien, vice president of sales, Dasher Technologies, a California-based, woman-owned company and Avnet partner. “CapacityNow will help us close deals faster because it creates a cost-effective way to improve customers’ data center efficiency, while still providing room for growth. With CapacityNow, we also have a built-in reason to have regular conversations with our customers about their data center needs, which will further cement our position as a trusted advisor. CapacityNow gives the customer better control and alignment between the latest IT technology and long-term utility computing needs.”

“Many customers have told us that it is difficult for them to accurately anticipate their exact capacity needs over a three-to-five-year period,” said Chris Riley, vice president of Enterprise Storage – Americas, HP. “As a pay-for-use solution, CapacityNow enables customers to purchase right-sized solutions for their needs today, while always having the opportunity to extend and grow. It also allows them to achieve savings in capital expenditures that can be strategically reinvested.”

CapacityNow is one of Avnet’s many offerings designed to help partners accelerate their data center solutions sales. Partners can also gain greater specialization in the data center through Avnet’s SolutionsPath® practices, focused on technologies including mobility, networking, security, storage and virtualization, and vertical markets, including energy, finance, government, healthcare and retail.
